How it all started

Science as

a tool for change.

SDW was born from the frustration of a young scientist who realized that creating technology was not enough, it was necessary to take this technology to the field, to the hands of the people who needed it most.

With the dream of being a scientist, Anna Luísa Beserra, from Bahia, created at 15 the Aqualuz, a solar technology for water disinfection. At 17, she founded SDW with the goal of transforming scientific solutions into real social impact.

Her work connects science, frugal innovation, and sustainability to expand access to water and sanitation in vulnerable communities, with data, with rigor, and with field presence.

Has over 30 years of experience, including in Africa, in the development and management of social transformation, sustainability, and territorial development projects. Also works in commercial management, articulating partnerships with companies, governments, and organizations.

Graduated in Mechatronics, is responsible for the development and improvement of SDW technologies, connecting engineering, applied science, and innovation.

From Ceará, she is an environmental engineer from UFC and a partner and co-CEO of SDW. Since 2017, she has been working on the development, expansion, and communication of projects for access to safe water and sanitation, contributing to broaden the reach of the organization's technologies and its socio-environmental impact.

2013

Creation of the Aqualuz technology

At 15, Anna Luísa develops Aqualuz, a solar technology for disinfecting water from cisterns, motivated by the water crisis in the semi-arid region.

2015

Foundation of SDW

At 17, Anna founded SDW For All with the goal of bringing scientific technology to the field, with real and measurable impact for vulnerable communities.

2017

Consolidation of the team

Meeting between partners Anna and Letícia, beginning of the consolidation of the multidisciplinary team that would make SDW scalable.

2019

International recognition — UN

Anna becomes the first Brazilian to win the United Nations Young Champions of the Earth Award. Beginning of the expansion of operations and first B2B partnerships.

2020 – 2022

Expansion and new global recognitions

Forbes Under 30, MIT Solve, UNESCO, Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award. Expansion of technologies and territorial expansion with companies like Coca-Cola, BRK, and Ambev.

Today
